The Holts and Longstaffs came together with two marriages
and are also connected via the Juvets of Geneva.
The earliest records we have are of William Longstaff born
in 1735, married Lydia Camm born 1765 30 years his junior. They had two
children, Robert and Mary and Robert is the father of John Holt's wife,Eliza.
I have no dates for Robert Longstaff but his wife Maria Ball
was born in 1808 and died in 1874 and they had five children, Robert, Eliza
John Rosa and Emma. Of these the most significant prices, his daughter Eliza
ball Longstaff born in 1848 in Stixwold Lincolnshire married John Holt of
Broughton Grange nearby. Eliza’s older brother John Longstaff is also connected
to the Holts through his marriage to Lucie Antoinette Juvet, Robert Holt’s
wifes aunt.. I have written a separate chapter on the Juvets but in brief Lucie
Antoinette was the Aunt of Lucy Juvet who married Robert Holt son of John Holt
(b.1841).
John Longstaff and Lucie Antoinette had a daughter called
Emilie who was a great character and a superb violinist.
